The truth is that it is really curious to find yourself withtwo and a half hectares of redwoods in an area as atypical for these plantations as Cantabria. Redwoods are a common species on the West Coast of the United States., but, You don't have to go that far to see them..

Hidden in the municipality of Cabezón de la Sal and bordering Udías is the redwood forest that They were planted in Cantabria due to the industrial needs of the area. around the year 1940, during the Franco era, where they were planted848 secuoyas to use wood for industry, In this way it would not be necessary to depend on external raw materials.

But it happened that since they had rapid growth at the beginning, they were forgotten and they were no longer interested in cutting them as timber raw material and they stayed planted as they left them., and later upon realizing that it is one of the most beautiful places in Cantabria, with which the forest was declared a Natural Monument.

This forest has redwoods up to 40 meters high, and aperimeter of about two meters, and taking a walk there is really pleasant and even more so with the autumn colors, althoughthere are still many people who still don't know him, despite being a walk without difficulty or easy access.

The fundamental idea is to take the following route:  In the morning we will visit the Cabezón de la Sal Sequoia forest, which has different routes and our guide will take you through the most representative ones..

General view of the Sequoia forest

Access is by road that runs from Cabezón to Comillas to the different parking lots at the foot of the road., and from there enter a series of well-marked paths that crisscross the different forests.

Once the visit is over, we return to the parking lot to continue with the excursion to another place..

Next, The transfer will be made to the weaver beekeeping area to visit their facilities to see a demonstration of how honey and its derivatives are worked., with a tasting of it.

Later we will go to eat at a nearby restaurant and after lunch in the agreed area, the second excursion will take place in the afternoon, visiting the Cantabria Nature Museum.
